Lunch with friends.....

It has been a while since I have posted on this blog........I haven't even posted any photos from our Xmas in July party.....and today I'm writing about our Xmas lunch that we had at the shop yesterday.....most years for our Xmas lunch at a local cafe, but this year we decided to extend our class and everyone brings a plate to share..........there were 11 of us and most of us bought at least two small plates of food to share.......wow....what a feast we ended up with....

some of the food for lunch

What a great group......where is Renarta.....she has the wine...

The Thursday ladies are a great group, we enjoy each other company and although not everyone can come along each week just about everyone turned up yesterday........Julie suggested this we make pillowcases for kids with cancer for our Xmas sewing day......what a great idea....everyone came loaded with bright happy colourful fabrics and we made 13 pillowcases........Cindy had started making some cases before class and finished 7 cases.......so we have 20 pillowcases to send off to a Children's Ward in Brisbane next week......

Embroidery panels

The last couple of weeks I made a panel that has some machine embroidery stitching, hand embroidery and some free motion stitching also.......I also added some old ric rac and some buttons..........then I made it into a bag..........My piece was inspired by a photo I saw in Quilting Arts magazine from a couple of months ago.....sorry I don't know the lady is.......( will find out and post her name later on )....I don't think it is anything like that ladies work though....... I took it along to show the Thursday ladies and they all wanted to make one as well......so at our last Project Day the ladies got started on their own panel.........

Angela

Julie
As you can see Angela and Julie have added some fabric on their panel as well.......
love the buttons on Julie's.........

Patsy

June
The ladies started out with a fat 1/4 and had some iron on interfacing on the back......we then marked a dividing line with a iron out pen and then they selected a design on their machines and stitched over the line.........after doing this a couple of times, they didn't need to mark a line anymore.......they had so much fun trying out some of the embroidery stitches on their machines.......I can't wait to see the finished pieces......

Lots to catch up with

I have been a little slack in posting lately but, the Thursday ladies have been busy as always........

This is such a bright and happy quilt that Patsy has made for one of her granddaughters
We have started having project days on the first Thursday of the month......our first project is a appliqued cushion cover......

Julie and Susan working on their cushion tops

Here is Kim keeping an eye on whats going on

Donna has been finishing off her UFO's,  this fabric is for the binding on a baby's quilt

Patsy cutting the fabric for her second cushion top...can't wait to see it finished

Julie cushion top is in  keeping with the nautical theme for their entertaining area

Susan made this little quilt and added the extra cupcakes for her granddaughter
The original  pattern for Susan's pink and white quilt was designed by Christine ...who works in the shop for Kim....

Julie has been working on this top for a while now and it is off to Kaylene ( at Behind the Seams) to be quilted

This is Rita.....who is visiting from Brisbane.......Rita is staying with her sister who is recovering from a knee operation...hi Louisa.....glad everything went well with your operation....

Here is Helen visiting us after she finished work.......always lovely to see her happy cheerful face, we don't see so much of Helen these days as her shifts have changed at work......nice that calls in to say hello still

Renarta has been working on this quilt for a little while also.......I love the fabrics in this quilt........it is a great piece to practice her freemotion machine quilting on......Renarta is doing a great job.........

So as you can see the ladies have been very busy.....our project for next month is making a bag and the front panel is embroidered using some those fancy stitched that our machines can do......looking forward to that class.....Until then

I thought I would show a couple of photos of my cushion cover.........I bought a pattern pack from Kimz to try out a Dresden Plate.......using some scraps......was pretty pleased with how that turned out and thought I would just do a little quilting around the plate..........so I outlined the plate a couple of times and then I decided I would do some little circles and it just grew and grew from there.....I had so much fun doing this and I really like it..........was going to give it away.......but now I think I will keep it to show at classes

It would be great to get some feedback on my piece......please drop me a line and let me know what you think......
hope you all have a great weekend.........happy stitching.........Cathy
