Wow the girls have been busy.........Pat has finally finished her quilt top for her friend....and it looks great.....the dark blue and pink borders make a real statement.

This is Junee's  first quilt. When Junee came to her first class she asked if I would help her make a simple and colourful quilt.  Junee bought her pattern in and we showed her the Kaffe and Amy Butler fabrics and she was hooked in a flash. Christine who works at the shop helped Junee add other fabric to get more variety into the quilt top.......I think it looks fabulous........

This is Patsy's table runner with the border on, just needs a little quilting and binding........

A lady came into the shop with this runner to get some threads for the stitching and quilting.....looks great.....love the colour combination.

Last year Patsy made two Stack and Whack sets of blocks to make a queen size quilt. After the quilt was put together there were two blocks left and look what Patsy has done.  What a great idea, both blocks have been framed and now hand above the bed that has the quilt on it.

This week after class we are having a sewing afternoon to make laundry bags, quilts or quilt tops for the Aussie Hero's....check out this site...  http://aussieheroquilts.blogspot.com.au/. If you would like to make a laundry the instructions are available on the blog site.......as they need to be made to a certain size, same for the quilts. The group is trying to as may bags and quilt as they can to be posted by the 15 March. They will then arrive in time for Anzac Day. To read more please visit the blog

This is what I have sorted out so far, from the blocks that were donated last year.

I hope we get a few laundry bags made, to send down to Jan-Maree. Anyone is welcome to come along to Kimz shop http://kimzsewing.blogspot.com.au/ to sew, or cut or iron for the afternoon, it's BYO machine and fabric.

A quite class last Thursday, only five ladies.....that's ok though, the ladies get more of my time.

This is Donna's quilt top, to be trimmed with grey on grey spot then red

Patsy is ready to add the borders to her table runner
Lynne D, Esme and Pat are all working on the patchwork, I just forgot to take photos.......

I was too busy talking........so

I spoke to the the ladies about http://aussieheroquilts.blogspot.com.au/ and we decided that we should make some laundry bags, to support the troops.  So, on Thursday March 1 at 1pm we will be having  a get together at Kimz Sewing Center to make some laundry bags and a couple of quilt tops. Of course it's BYO fabric and machine, if anyone is interested, you are more than welcome. We will need someone to iron and a cutter also.

I will be sorting out our colour challenge that we started last year. We are going to make two single quilt out of the 16 patch instead of one queens size. These top will be quilted and then sent down to Jan-Maree to be posted off to the troops........

Until next time.........Happy stitching

On Thursday we had a great class, the ladies are keen to start new projects and learn new techniques. We had three new ladies start, they all have very different craft backgrounds. One with no patchwork experience, one lay who has done a little patchwork and one very creative lady who is part of the textile group that I am a member of also. So it will be interesting to see their progress and finished projects over the next few weeks.

Kris and Esme had never met before, but they both brought the same project along, although in very different prints and colours

Pat was there trying to finish her lap quilt for her friend, it is coming together slowly, and is looking great.

Julie is made and was basting a young girls quilt, sorry Julie I can't quite remember who the quilt is for. Julie was also finishing off some cushion covers and was getting herself into a tangle with her bracelet and watch.

We let her struggle for a while until Pat gave her a hand.

Susan has started a fairly new project, the embroidered blocks were finished last year and is now putting them together to make a wall hanging. Susan is using a beautiful floral fabric to enhance the embroideries. It is going to look great when it's finished. I hope to get a photo of it hanging on the wall in her dining room.

Patsy is cruising along with her projects, over the last two weeks when I was away she kept herself busy making the red and green quilt. We are now tackling a Bargello table runner. Love the colours.....

Julie is showing off Patsy's quilt top

Lynne D is finishing off her charity quilt, and is finding the quilting so much easier now she has a new machine. Lynne lashed out a bought herself a new Janome Horizon and is telling everyone how good it is....

Renarta is back and is working on a new kit project. The fabrics are just gorgeous soft greys,  white and red and we are doing  stack and whack blocks. New technique and is also quick and easy.

Angela is working on her latest block of the month and was practicing her free motion quilting also.

So all in all a very busy morning that everyone enjoyed, and I will see them all again tomorrow. I really enjoy Thursday class spending the morning with such lovely ladies.......

Happy stitching -------- Cathy
